Wednesday, March 10. 2010Festival of lanterns
His Royal Highness King Ascario Lessandero Gustavius the 3rd, Lord and Chosen of Akbeth, High Marshal of the knightly legions of Nemea asks that the citizens of Nemea welcome the new diplomatic envoy from the Sha-Jin Empire. The two greatest powers in Ezantoh, the Kingdom of Nemea and the Sha-Jin Empire, have come together today for the first time in history. Planning to discuss trade trade routes, and hoping to ensure peace and prosperity for both nations, the King hopes that everything will go as planned. In order to honor his esteemed guests, the King has decided to celebrate the Sha-Jin holiday "Festival of Lanterns".
Most people in Nemea know very little about this far away Empire, and you are no exception. You know that it is one of the biggest Empires in all Ezanoth, and you know that it is as rich in material goods as it is in military might.... but that is about all you know, apart from a few old wives tales. This Festival of Lanterns, commonly known to the people in western Ezanoth as “Sha-Jin New Year”, is also a bit of a mystery to you. You have heard that, unlike the people of western Ezenoth, the Sha-Jin people celebrate the start of the new year in the spring, but that is where your knowledge stops. You prepared for this festival nearly a month ago, but sadly, the Ambassador’s boat was delayed due to weather conditions at sea, and the holiday will be celebrated a few weeks after the New Year has already begun. The King highly recommends that everyone look for a new Seasonal Appointment Dungeon, “Festival of Lanterns” appearing at the End of the dungeon list. In order to honor the Ambassador’s love of all things artistic, the King has started two contests to showcase the artistic talents of the Nemean people for the Ambassador. Prizes exist for winners of both contests, and everybody is free to enter. To Enter the Haiku Competition (poetry contest) or the Banner Competition (graphic design contest) please follow the instructions in the Off Topic Forums. The Data Transfer is scheduled for the 12th of February 06:00 GMT and will include the following changes:
Changes to drinks With the next data transfer many of the durrent drinks in the game will be changed. Most notably, all flat percent bonuses have been removed from the drinks, so you actually have to invest experience points into the skill to benefit from it. Enjoy the new drinks. Cheers! Talent: Scream of Shock The maluses of the Scream of Shock have been significantly lowered. In return, the Scream now deals psychological damage to Bards target. You can also use the Skill with an optional Instrument for a further bonus. New and changed items Several new items have been added to the drops. Be sure to keep an eye out for them. The "bloodstained boar spear" is now useable by all races. The juggling torches now give a malus on ranged attack instead of perception. The small hookah can now be used by Rashani as well and has an additional bonus of +2 to Smoke Blessing(a), and +20% to smoke pipe (a). You can no longer use drinks with it though. Ever felt clueless as to what your next step should be? Ever wondered how all the others get such high rolls and you don’t? Speculating whether you should raise agility or knife combat next? Which path should you chose if you’re going for a melee defensive build? All those tricky things that can end up requiring a reset point, or worse a conversion point!
Well, look no further because the World of Dungeons Chat is here! On Monday, the 1st of February 20:00 GMT there will be some experienced heroes in the chat with the sole purpose of helping you with your build. All the experienced players have been playing WoD for a considerable amount of time and have thought over the same questions as you have. No question is too small and no question is too big. So if you’re wondering what your next smart step is come to the chat and ask. cu on the Chat Monday, January 11. 2010Data Transfer - 2010-01-14

You awake on the grassy slope in front of the fortress of Barrak Tor. Asured and the stone are gone, but not long gone you realize, as the sun has just barely started to drop below the horizon.
He may be a powerful Bard, yes... but he is over-confidant. He has made no attempt to cover his tracks, and he cannot yet be far away. You do still feel a little woozy from the enchantment he put on you, but soon you will return to alertness. If you drop a few items from your pack, lighten your load so to speak, perhaps you will move a little faster. Surely before the sun sets you will have this thing he has stolen, this runic stone. The Dungeon will be available with the next data transfer. It is recommended to all groups from Level 24 to Level 27 (available Level 21 to 40). The Dungeon is based on a player suggestion from DarkRuan and was rewritten by Ibid, who also designed and balanced it. Thanks to all for your great work. Endarion Saturday, December 19. 2009Design Blog: Achievements
Hello
My name is Black Phoenix. Many of you may know me, but for those who don't let me introduce myself. My real, non-emo-sounding name is Timothy, I'm 22 years old and live in America. I've always been a fan of role playing games, getting my start with early computer games such as Baldur's Gate, Never Winter Nights, etc... My personal experience with WoD only goes back to 2006, when I started playing just before the beta ended. I've been a member of the design team for just over a year now, and plan to stick around quite a bit longer. But, I post this before your inquisitive eyes today not to bore you with personal details, or completely and utterly spill the beans on our upcoming projects (maybe next time), but to talk to you about one of the features we recently introduced on the player realms. Namely, achievements, how they relate to you, and what our plans for the future with them are. How do achievements affect me now? Currently, they're really only fluff. Confusing fluff, since they are still in beta, and don't work quite right, yet. Despite how rough they are at this point in time, they have a huge amount of potential, since it can provide you with a nice benchmark of your progress through the game. They also offer us the possibility to add more great features to the game like special titles for great feats or incitement for players to vote or recruit. On the beta-status note, many of you have noticed that the level 2 achievement is not handed out immediately. Don't worry, you'll receive all level achievements you are eligible for the next time you level up. Sadly, we will not be able to do anything like this for the dungeon or duel achievements you have missed, as the work involved with it is rather staggering to consider. So sorry, but I'm sure you'd rather us work on things other than handing out medals to every person retroactively. How will achievements affect me in the future? We have great plans for achievements in the future. Things like meta-achievements for completing story-lines staged across several dungeons. Or for completing that high level dungeon the hard way, rather than taking the easy route. Or maybe, changing the way titles are handed out. We do plan on having both easy, almost mundane achievements as well as the harder ones. Most of these are added almost as much for pacing's sake as actual accomplishment. But of course, the rewards offered will be scaled in relation to the task's difficulty, so no medals for just hitting level 5. Which brings me into perhaps the most important aspect of achievements. We can set some of the more difficult achievements to reward players with a medal, title, fame, or pretty much anything we want to reward you guys with. Don't expect to see any of this type of achievements until we reset Baradar though. It just wouldn't be fair to add these in and suddenly find that half the players who would normally be eligible for the reward can't get it. A side note about titles, while I'm thinking about it. Current plans for the near future call for players to be awarded titles from achievements, rather than fame. We're also trying to change it so that players can select their titles at any time from a list of titles they've earned in the past. So if you're getting bored of being Ivan the Terrible, you can change it up a bit and try being Ivan, Runs with Wolves, and still have the option of changing back later. Great things are ahead for WoD, so sit back, get your typing fingers ready, and enjoy the ride. BP, signing out. Thursday, December 17. 2009Data Transfer - 2009-12-21
The Data Transfer is scheduled for the 21st of December 06:00 GMT and will include the following changes:
Changes to the herbs Trollbeard on the tank, red petals or sweatroot on the rest. That was basically all herbal users ever provided for their groups. Quite boring in our opinion, which is why we decided to adjust the herbs a bit. The old herbs won't be deleted or changed though, but they won't drop in dungeons any more. Instead new herbs will be dropping with the next data transfer. Some names you already know like trollbeard (which only has a different effect now) but there will be several new additions as well, like thistle or chicory root. All herbs can be found in four different versions, depending on the level of the heroes. Fresh herbs are the basic herbs and will drop right away. Experienced herbologists will be able to use dried, distilled or even essence of these herbs as well, which improve the basic effects of the fresh versions or even add new ones. So have a look out from Monday on and test the new herbs. Be sure to check the ministry of information as well to work together with others on this. The journey to Barrak Tor The journey to Barrak Tor will now be available to all groups within the recommended Level range Level 21 to 40. It is recommended for all groups to visit this Dungeon. New and changed items Several new items have been added to the drops. Be sure to keep an eye out for them. The handbook of the nightingale now offers a bonus of +1 to alternative medicine and soothing words and can be used by Shamans. Wednesday, December 9. 2009Forum News
Finally, after the Courts and the Colosseum have found a new Admin, we also have someone to take over the Forums. A big welcome to Engelstaub, our new Forum Admin, who will from now on take care of everything regarding the official WoD Forums.
He already has many plans for the Forums and a couple of them he already made a reality. From today, dungeon forums will be separated from the university. They can now be found in there own sub-forum with a lot of additional information on many dungeons, so if you have troubles in a dungeon or would like some hints of what to expect, have a look around there. And even if you already know anything there is to know, go there and help others out with your hints and tricks. The University Forums will be adjusted further over the coming weeks. The FAQ topics will be moved to our Wikipedia step by step and will then be removed. We will also introduce a new Forum there next to the existing ones, the general-, skills- and item-questions and the ministry. The new forum will be the place for all the experienced players to discuss more advanced topics, like the perfect group outline or the benefits of double DefS buffs on mages. We hope you will like these changes and come and join in the discussions there. Now, to get things going a little bit, Engelstaub had the great idea to offer a couple of rewards to players who provide information and participate in these forums. For example the first to post all uniques from a particular dungeon correctly or the first to find out the effects of certain consumables will be rewarded. As with all other areas of WoD, the forums are also kept alive with the help of volunteers only. And as with all areas, the forums are looking for new helpers to moderate and organize the forums. We are looking for people to moderate the university, the looking for group and the hero forums. If you are interested in helping out, please send a message to Engelstaub. Hope to see you all in the forums Endarion New language

The Data Transfer is scheduled for the 27th of November 06:00 GMT and will include the following changes:
The journey to Barrak Tor This new Dungeon is recommended to all groups from Level 24 to Level 27 (available Level 21 to 40). The Dungeon is based on a player suggestion from DarkRuan and was rewritten by Curumo. It was designed and balanced by Snark and Ibid. For the first weeks, this dungeon will only be available for the recommended level to give the groups of an appropriate level the chance to explore it before high-level groups rush through it. For more information go here. "Dwarven Stairs" and "Riddle of Amber" Both dungeons will be available up to level 40 for several weeks. We highly recommend it to all groups to visit these dungeons again. Achievements With the next data transfer, a new feature will be added to World of Dungeons, Achievements. This feature will be in beta status for now and might still contain a few bugs, none of which will influence your heroes in any other area. Step by step we will introduce more achievements and with the next realm, achievements will be an important part of the game awarding new and unique prices for their completion. For more information go here. New and changed items Many new items have been added to the drops. Be sure to keep an eye out for them. The mirror blade can now be used with premonition up to 3 times per dungeon. The boost to Loyal Companion on Witches guide to practical magik has been decreased from +34% SR to +20% SR due to balance concerns. Golden unicycle has received requirements. Head of a ram pendant is now unique for hero, and also has received hero level and fame requirements. Box of altar candles is no longer unique for hero. Item sets Melcar, the singing blade has been moved to either hand. The singing blade has been changed to Hummingbird`s talon, which means it has become a fencing weapon, and had a change of requirements and class availability. There is a hum in the air about what happens when you bring both of these unusual weapons together. Tzaach Ghaarot`s broad axe of flame and Tzaach Ghaarot`s scale armor of eternal flame have gained some rather interesting properties as of late. Inquisitive heroes may find that there is more power in them when combined. Tui Zen Waah`s Zen Mark has become available to those heroes lucky enough to own the famous general's armor. Gustav`s Grub is available to the more sticky fingered among you. Talent: Enrapture Number of enemies affected has been changed to 2 + 25% of hero level. With the next data transfer, a new feature will be added to World of Dungeons, Achievements. This feature will be in beta status for now and might still contain a few bugs, none of which will influence your heroes in any other area. Step by step we will introduce more achievements and with the next realm, achievements will be an important part of the game awarding new and unique prices for their completion.
In this first batch, we will start with some basic achievements concerning your hero, the recruitment of new players, the Colosseum, dungeons, quests and voting. These achievements are for example: Completing dungeons or quests will reward your hero with an achievement. Later we will add more achievements under this category for winning dungeons in a certain way or surviving a devastating hit like the cannon in the deranged alchemist. We might also add statistical achievements for dealing a certain amount of damage in a dungeon or reaching 100% hit quota. Winning hero-, group- or clan-duels will award you with achievements. In time we will also award achievements for winning a league or tournament or for being on the winning side in a mass duel. There are many achievements to explore already and more to come. Hope you enjoy the new feature. Endarion New Dungeon - The journey to Barrak Tor
After a long and hard days travel… again, you stumble into an old tavern called “The Drunken Elf”. The tavern sign shows an elf not handling his ale too well and you see why as you push the doors open: the tavern is run and occupied by dwarves.
The tavern is very full and the dwarves seem a little rowdy. By the time you make it too the bar you seem to be wearing around four or five pints of ale. You order ale and food for your stomach and its served promptly. Just about that time one of the tavern's patrons, a human but with a stature similar to an elf, jumps up on stage and begins to sing… The Dungeon will be available with the next data transfer on Thursday, the 26th of November. It is recommended to all groups from Level 24 to Level 27 (available Level 21 to 40). In addition the two dungeons "dwarven stairs" and "riddle of amber" will be available up to level 40 for several weeks. We highly recommend it to all groups to visit these dungeons again. Thanks to all for your great work. Endarion Saturday, November 21. 2009News from the Colosseum
First off, the Colosseum has a new master, Hasta has agreed to to take over as our new Colosseum Admin. Welcome on the Team. And even though he has only been in this position for a few days, he already started several new leagues and events.
For all, looking for a new challenge, the skill leagues have now opened their doors. Each league is open to all classes and races provided they only attack with either melee, ranged or magic attacks. This should allow heroes to display their skills in unusual ways. In addition, the 2 vs 2 league has been restarted and old and new participants alike are always welcomed. Naturally all the classic leagues are still up and running. Visit the Arena today and join the fun. We have also received news from Jaidoh the traveling Circus Master. He has been journeying for years all over the world and has now decided to set up a base in Fraon, the capital of Nemea. Amongst his huge collections of followers and acts are various monsters heroes may fight for the amusement for his visitors. The first challenge goes out to the young heroes of Ezantoh. Up to 50 young heroes (lvl 10 or below) to try and knock down one of his War Ogres. That should draw in a crowd. And all the more experienced fighters should keep an eye out for Jaidoh will certainly bring more of his exotic discoveries into the Arena. To visit the traveling Circus, just go to the Colosseum Forums. For glory and honor Endarion Thursday, November 12. 2009Dungeon building contest: The third gate
Ever wished to add your own Dungeon to the World of Dungeons?
Want to see your name up there with all the other Designers? Here is your chance. We are currently looking for a good new Dungeon story for the third Dungeon of the Kargash series. The series starts with the Quest: The Battle of Kargash Peak and is followed by the first and second gate Dungeons. The first gate leads the players to the elemental plain of wind, which was taken over by Staddig and his energy rouges. Behind the second gate you have to defeat Tzaach Gaahroth the king of the fire giants and ruler of the elemental plain of fire. Now the scholars of Ravenfort have recently found out that the third gate leads onto the elemental plain of water. So if you have a good idea for a Dungeon, post it here. The best suggestion will be implemented by our Designers. Requirements: 1. The dungeon is for the levels of 32+. This means it has to be more difficult then Shadows or Wolferod. 2. The dungeon has to center around the exploration of the elemental plain of water by the players. 3. The story has to be interesting and fun, with special and new challenges for the players. Wednesday, November 4. 2009The Courts of Fraon
As soon as you invited the new member, he emptied your groups storage and left again? Someone insulted you or is trying to slander your good name? Or maybe you just need a hero transfer to replace a leaving group member?
With all these and many more problems, the judges of the Courts of Fraon can help you. They will help you to find the ones who wronged you, punish cheaters and unfair players and even help to return the items you lost to you. I am happy to announce Mandrayk as our new Court Admin, welcome on the Team. The case-load is way too high for one single judge to handle though. Therefor we are currently looking to hire new judges, so if you are interested in helping other players and to keep WoD a fair game with a nice community, send your application to Mandrayk on any Realm. Greetings Endarion
